what swords did the Ninja really use?

Hollywood would have it that Ninjas wielded a straight bladed short sword with a square tsuba, known as the Ninja-to. while this sword would very well serve a ninjas purpose such a sword simply didn't exist in those days. Or at least not consistently. The ninja usually being rogues and outlaws did not have the ability to hire expert swordsmiths like that of the samurai. they perhaps may have had a blacksmith but not one capable of creating such fine swords as the katana. The sword that A ninja would have owned was likely to be a kodachi. A curved short sword similar to the Samurai Wakizashi although lower quality and perhaps slightly longer. As Kodachi are short swords they were allowed to be carried by the general public and so the Ninja likely had access to them. Another sword a ninja might have owned was the Wakizashi of the samurai. however it would have to be stolen from a samurai to be attained. The katana because of its size would've been of little use to the Ninja who prefered stealth over power. And it simply didn't require a 42 inch long sword to quietly stab someone from behind. The ninja wouldve taken the Wakizashi from a defeated samurai and put it in the sheath of the katana and hidden blinding powder in the extra space at the bottom of the sheath. The only use a ninja had for the katana would be if he should need to dress up as a samurai as a disguise. And perhaps to sell for a hefty sum of cash on the black market...

The difficulties of suburbia...

Its difficult being a ninja in a small town. in the city there are limitless hiding spots and places to climb. in a small town most places are usually someones house. waaaaay out in the country it is quiet where your training will not be disrupted that is not so in a small town either. thus are the difficulties of a ninja in the suburbs....

The name of the game...

There are many names given to the ones now known as Ninja. However the name Ninja is probably the newest of these terms.the many names of Ninja are as follows... Ninja:basic term of japans shadow warriors. Shinobi:a male ninja trained in visual stealth and combat. Kunoichi:a female ninja, trained in social stealth and seductive manipulation. Onmitsu:an older term, a ninja specializing in stealth over combat, usually spies. Oniwabanshu: A ninja specializing in combat over stealth, often served as guards and shadow soliders. while most Ninja specialized in one area or another all were extremely well trained in ALL areas. So dont think that a Kunoichi would not be sufficient in combat. Because that would be a lie. Similarly how a pro baseball player would be extremely good at most sports due to an overwhelming athleticism.

Kuji magic. Lost Ninja art or media inspired nonsense?

Today I will be discussing the topic of the ancient art of Kuji. Kuji were spells said to be cast by the Ninja long ago. While many aspects of the Ninja lifestyle are surrounded in mystery many of them really have had more place in mythology. Kuji magic for instance, The ability to control and create effects of nature. Examples are creating spontaneous combustion and passing into the plane of spirits. The existence of Magic (for you bible believers) has been confirmed in the book of exodus when moses brings the 7 plagues upon egypt. upon several of the plagues it states that "they could do the same with their incantations" and if you believe in the bible "which I do" This is a clear statement of the existence of magic. While its nature may be somewhat sinister its existence is absolute. However many kuji spells seem more a matter of psychic abilities such as pyrokinesis electrokinesis and astral projection. Based on these facts the existence of Kuji magic is completely feasible. On the reverse side, many of the abilities (such as disappearing into the spirit realm) seem largely a matter of a primitive understanding of stealth and the body,s physical capabilities. Running up walls was believed to be a supernatural ability then, but now it is well known to be possible with enough agility training. They also were believed to be able to put up invisible "shields" of Magic, able to stop any bladed weapon dead in its tracks, It was later discovered that the ninja in fact had placed small spiked iron bars across the palms of their hands. This invention of weapons by the ninja and only for the ninja was part of what led people to believe they had supernatural powers. Now Does kuji magic really exist? There can be no absolute answer. The only thing that is sure is that there are no known users of kuji magic in the modern world. So unfortunately the matter cannot be confirmed nor denied. But hopefully I was able to help you make a decision on your own beliefs on the existence of Kuji magic...

First off...

Hello and welcome to Shinobi Village a site for ninjas by a ninja. This site is for all those with a pasion for ninjutsu. While yes I do like Naruto that is not what this is about. This site is to honor the mysterious and mythologized warriors of the shadows known as Ninja... my hope is that soon this site will help to promote awareness of the true image of the ninja. And to help clear away some of the confusion the media has caused. And in addition may help me to meet others who share my fascination and passion of the subject who will one day soon help me to establish Americas first legitimate Shinobi village......thank you and welcome to Shinobi Village!
